We will create art inspired by artists Heather Galler, Jim Dine and Georgia O’Keeffe using a variety of art mediums such as clay, watercolors, oil pastels and chalk pastels. Children go on a voyage of discovery to space with unique hands-on activities and amazing demonstrations. March 28 – June 6 Tuesdays, 3:30pm - 4:30pm Class description: Each class will have check-in, lessons, practice play, and an in-class tournament round. We ensure that all kids are being challenged and learning something new each week. Our first class we will be assessing all the students to see what level everyone is at. Based on these assessments, we will have multiple groups. This will also give us an idea what key chess strategies we will be learning throughout each session. Students will learn about gravity, aerodynamics, forces, motion, and much more as they learn about flight, super villain fights, and superhero vehicles. A school-hours program designed to supplement art instruction on a monthly basis developed by the Seattle Art Museum.
Parent Art Docents provide monthly, in-class art instruction to students and display the students' artwork at the annual Art Showcase in May. Curriculum and all supplies are provided, as well as an orientation/training in September. Each classroom needs at least one parent Art Docent but most classes have more. Art Docents sign up for this position with the classroom teacher at Curriculum Night. The PTA provides information, suggested curriculum by grade, training, and guidance. Art Docents work directly with the Classroom Teacher to schedule and plan the art lessons for the year. Art Docents must complete the LWSD Volunteer application and approval process prior to being in the classroom. Docents, access your files here.

An at-home program designed to improve student math skills through league play and challenge events. Weekly Math Challenges are announced through the Bugle newsletter.

A district, state and national level judged art show for all students and grades. Students have the opportunity to create original works in several categories including dance/choreography, music composition, literature, film production, photography and visual art. Students may submit in more than one category. Selected pieces will be displayed at Rockwell, in the LWSD area and in Washington state.

This special event takes place during school hours (most likely in October) for our 4th and 5th grade classes. Volunteers help host various stations, which provide different opportunities for students to increase awareness and gain a glimpse into what their peers with disabilities may experience. Many of the students and staff have appreciated this event and learn so much.

3- events in one! Student artwork is displayed all throughout the school by the classroom art docents. Families may walk around and enjoy the art and also stop by the gym for ice cream (served by their teachers). Meanwhile the library will be selling used books (donated by Rockwell families). Art Docent Chair and docents coordinate the art show, and the librarian coordinates the book sale.

Room Parent Chairs communicates with room parents and provides a fall training. Room Parents help plan classroom parties for individual classrooms with other parent volunteers from your student's class. Also includes communicating with parents regarding any celebration for teacher birthdays and Teacher Appreciation Week. Room Parents will sign up to be a room parent in the classroom during Curriculum Night.
