3- events in one! Student artwork is displayed all throughout the school by the classroom art docents. Families may walk around and enjoy the art and also stop by the gym for ice cream (served by their teachers). Meanwhile the library will be selling used books (donated by Rockwell families). Art Docent Chair and docents coordinate the art show, and the librarian coordinates the book sale.

Art Docent

A school-hours program designed to supplement art instruction on a monthly basis developed by the Seattle Art Museum.

Parent Art Docents provide monthly, in-class art instruction to students and display the students' artwork at the annual Art Showcase in May. Curriculum and all supplies are provided, as well as an orientation/training in September.

Each classroom needs at least one parent Art Docent but most classes have more. Art Docents sign up for this position with the classroom teacher at Curriculum Night.

The PTA provides information, suggested curriculum by grade, training, and guidance. Art Docents work directly with the Classroom Teacher to schedule and plan the art lessons for the year. Art Docents must complete the LWSD Volunteer application and approval process prior to being in the classroom.

Reflections Art Competition

A district, state and national level judged art show for all students and grades. Students have the opportunity to create original works in several categories including dance/choreography, music composition, literature, film production, photography and visual art. Students may submit in more than one category. Selected pieces will be displayed at Rockwell, in the LWSD area and in Washington state.

Room Parent Chairs communicates with room parents and provides a fall training. Room Parents help plan classroom parties for individual classrooms with other parent volunteers from your student's class. Also includes communicating with parents regarding any celebration for teacher birthdays and Teacher Appreciation Week. Room Parents will sign up to be a room parent in the classroom during Curriculum Night.
