SALMON IN THE CLASSROOM UPDATE

Have you seen our Salmon tank lately? 4th graders and their teachers have been excitedly watching as 200 Salmon eggs placed in Rockwell's salmon tank in early January quickly hatched into Alevin with prominent yolk sacs. (Alevin is

just a fancy word to describe baby Salmon with yolk sacs). Once all of the Alevin turn into Fry (very soon), members of the 4th grade class get to feed them daily during the school week with the help of parents! Info coming soon from your teachers!

It can be a school wide experience to "Watch the Tank". The tank is located in a prominent position on the way to the lunchroom for many students. And for parent volunteers, please look for the tank on your way down the south hallway of Rockwell near the gym and playground.

For over 20 years now, Salmon in the Classroom is one of the very cool programs sponsored by your Rockwell PTA. This year, Fourth grade is using the salmon for several aspects within the curriculum including demonstrating the connection between Northwest Coastal People and the economics unit which teaches about natural resources & jobs. The salmon correlate to the Environments Life Science unit, human life cycle and provide hands on content to the novel study, research and writing project.

If any 3rd grade parents are interested in learning the process and chairing the program for your 4th graders next year, let us know!
